Short description and remarks


Merger of three parallel pipe flows into a channel at medium Reynolds number. The inflows through the inlets have the same parabolic profile, but size 2 for the middle pipe while size 1 for the lower and upper one. The resulting flow is nonsteady and still axi-symmetrical for some time before all symmetry is broken. This simulation has to be compared with the similar ones in the Album, including lower Reynolds numbers and different types of inflows.


Visualization

  • Distribution of temperature/concentration via Boussinesq model

    Visualization via tracing of concentration, starting from the inlet, shaded (first and second as a zoom, 2.1 and 2.3 MB) and via isolines (third, 6.6 MB). The color red means `value of concentration +1' while blue stands for 'value of concentration -1'. Consequently, the green regions represent the mixed zones (concentration almost zero!).





  • Pressure

    Visualization via pressure plots, shaded (first, 1.8 MB) and via isolines (second and third, as zoom, 5.5 MB and 8.2 MB).





  • Streamfunction

    Visualization via streamline plots, shaded (first, 1.7 MB) and via isolines (second and third, as zoom, 5.7 MB and 7.5 MB).





  • Velocity

    Visualization via vector plots (vectors, 2.9 MB) in a zoomed region.
