
Short description and remarks

Engineering point of view :
'Shell and Tube'HeatExchanger are widely spread in the field of
chemical engineering. Still it is not clear how to arrange the tubes
inside the appartus in order to get an optimal heattransfer behaviour.
Beginning from a simple configuration with only one tube(Rad=1.5;
Area=Pi*Rad^2). We studied cases for 2x2 through 5x5 tube arrangemnets for
constant circumference as well as constant area.

Mathematical point of view :
We studied a 2D cutplane of the above described apparatus. Fluid flow
calculation in a square of 4 units with 25 circles each of radius 0.3,
placed equidistantly inside the square. The calculation starts from
rest state. The flow is observed with the Reynolds number, Re=1,000. This
simulation is part of a SoftwarePraktikum at the University of
Dortmund in the year 2004.
