Engineering point of view
'Shell and Tube'HeatExchanger are widely spread in the field of
chemical engineering. Still it is not clear how to arrange the tubes
inside the apparatus in order to get a optimal heattransferbehaviour.
Beginning from a simple configuration with only one tube we studied cases for 2x2 upto 5x5 tube arrangemnets for
constant circumference as well as constant area.
Mathematical point of view
We studied a 2D cutplane of the above described apparatus. Fluid flow calculation in a square of 4
units with 4 circles of radius 0.375, located at (1.334,1.334),
(2.667,1.334), (2.667,2.667), (1.334,2.667). The calculation starts from rest.
The flow is observed with the Reynolds number, Re = 1000.
This simulation is part of a SoftwarePraktikum at the University of Dortmund in 2004.
